Camera Bike Modification – Filming Rig Extension

We recently completed a custom bike modification project, designing and fabricating a specialist extension to support a mounted camera system. This unique build also incorporated a swivel seat, allowing a passenger to safely sit and operate the camera while in motion.

This project focused on creating a stable, functional, and secure platform suitable for filming applications, while maintaining balance, safety, and usability of the bike.

Project Overview

The brief was to design and manufacture a bespoke extension that would allow a camera operator to be positioned on the bike, with the flexibility to capture footage from multiple angles. The solution needed to be strong, well-balanced, and safe for both rider and passenger, while also providing smooth and practical camera operation during movement.

Our approach combined structural fabrication with practical design considerations, ensuring the finished build was both durable and fit for purpose in a dynamic filming environment.

Bike Extension Fabrication

The core of the project involved fabricating a custom extension to be securely fitted to the bike. This extension was designed to provide a stable mounting point for both the seating and camera equipment, while distributing weight effectively to maintain balance and control.

High-strength materials and precise fabrication techniques were used to ensure the extension could withstand movement, vibration, and regular use. The structure was carefully aligned with the bike to ensure it integrated seamlessly without compromising performance.

Swivel Seat Installation

A key feature of this build was the installation of a swivel seat, allowing the passenger to rotate and adjust their position while filming. This provides greater flexibility for capturing footage from different angles without requiring the bike to change direction.

The seat was securely mounted to the fabricated framework, ensuring both stability and safety for the occupant. Smooth rotation and controlled movement were prioritised to allow comfortable operation during use.

Camera Mounting Solution

In addition to the seating, a dedicated mounting point was incorporated into the structure to support camera equipment. This mount was designed to hold the camera securely while minimising vibration and movement, helping to achieve more stable footage.

The positioning of the mount was carefully considered to provide optimal filming angles while keeping the setup practical and easy to operate.

Completed Result

The finished bike modification provides a robust and functional filming platform, complete with a secure extension, integrated swivel seating, and a stable camera mounting solution. The build allows a passenger to safely operate a camera while in motion, making it ideal for capturing dynamic footage.
